Compensation: €3,500 gross/month (part-time, pre-licensing stage)
€5,000–6,000 gross/month (full-time, post-licensing)
We’re supporting a fast-growing fintech company in Latvia that is currently in the process of obtaining an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license.
This is a key legal hire at a critical stage of the business. You will take ownership of the legal function from early setup through to scaling – working closely with leadership, compliance, and operations teams to build a robust legal and regulatory framework.
The role is hands-on and high-impact, with a clear path to evolve into a Head of Legal position as the company grows.
The environment is entrepreneurial, international, and execution-focused – ideal for someone who enjoys building structure from scratch while being close to business decision-making.
What You’ll Do
Legal Ownership & Regulatory
- Take full ownership of legal matters related to EMI licensing and ongoing regulatory compliance
- Ensure alignment with EU regulatory frameworks (PSD2, AML, data protection)
- Act as a key legal advisor to senior management on regulatory and operational topics
Contracts & Documentation
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements (partnerships, vendors, customers, internal agreements)
- Develop and standardise legal documentation across the business
Governance & Structure
- Establish internal legal policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
- Support corporate structuring and internal decision-making processes
- Identify legal risks and implement mitigation strategies
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with Compliance, Risk, and Operations on licensing, audits, and daily activities
- Manage external legal counsel and communication with regulatory authorities
What You Bring
- 3+ years of legal experience, ideally in fintech, financial services, or regulated environments
- Strong understanding of EU regulatory frameworks (EMI, PSD2, AML, financial compliance)
- Proven experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements
- Experience with licensing processes or regulator interaction – a strong advantage
- Qualified lawyer (EU qualification preferred)
- Fluency in English and Latvian, Russian is a plus
- Ability to translate legal complexity into practical business advice
- Hands-on, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
