Manual QA Engineer (Backend / API)

We are a growing payment gateway company serving international clients and building secure payment infrastructure for online businesses. Our team consists of approximately 20 professionals across multiple locations, including Cyprus, working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

As our platform continues to grow, ensuring the quality, reliability, and stability of backend systems is a key priority. We are looking for an experienced Manual QA Engineer with strong backend and API testing expertise to take ownership of quality assurance processes across our payment gateway platform.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with engineering, product, and business teams, helping to maintain a high-quality product in a regulated payments environment where reliability, accuracy, and security are critical.

Location: Remote
Cooperation Model: B2B Contract
Monthly Contract Fee: Competitive, depending on experience and expertise

What You’ll Do

Test Design & Documentation

  • Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into comprehensive test cases and checklists
  • Maintain and improve QA documentation and ensure it remains accurate and up to date
  • Contribute to product documentation and quality-related processes

Backend & API Testing

  • Perform manual testing of backend components, services, and microservices
  • Test REST APIs and other API types using tools such as Postman and Swagger
  • Validate end-to-end data flows across client-server architecture, from API requests through data persistence
  • Verify business logic, integrations, and system behavior under various scenarios

Diagnostics & Data Validation

  • Investigate issues using logs and monitoring tools such as Kibana and Grafana
  • Work directly with databases and write SQL queries to validate data and reproduce issues
  • Analyze defects, identify root causes, and provide detailed bug reports with clear reproduction steps
  • Support troubleshooting efforts together with development teams

Collaboration & Release Support

  • Work closely with developers, business analysts, product teams, and other stakeholders to ensure high product quality
  • Participate in release activities and contribute to release readiness reviews
  • Support continuous improvement of QA processes and testing practices

What We’re Looking For

  • 4+ years of commercial experience in software quality assurance
  • Experience testing both backend and frontend applications
  • Strong hands-on experience with Postman, Swagger, and API testing
  • Experience working with different API types and client-server architectures
  • Practical experience with SQL and database validation
  • Experience working with logs, monitoring, and troubleshooting tools such as Kibana and Grafana
  • Hands-on experience with bug and task tracking systems
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to document and communicate defects clearly and accurately
  • Strong communication skills in Russian, Ukrainian, and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with payment systems, fintech products, or regulated financial services
  • Experience executing or supporting automated tests written in Java
  • Understanding of microservice-based architectures
